Meso-Dosing. Everything you need to know.

Meso-dosing is a health trend that has recently hit the European wellness scene from the US. Meso is the Greek work for middle, referring here to nutrients in the middle of, or inside certain foods. They are nutrients with powerful health effects; those active compounds that put the ‘super’ into ‘superfoods’ like berries, turmeric and green tea. By consuming normal quantities of food, we may not always get sufficient of these meso-nutrients to confer the maximum health benefits. The idea therefore, is to extract these highly beneficial nutrients and take them in a higher dose.

For example, turmeric’s anti-inflammatory and other beneficial effects are largely down to an active ingredient called curcumin. With green tea, many of the health effects are due to a compound called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) and blueberries owe much of their superfruit status to anthocyanins.

These special compounds are the meso-nutrients and although they are present in our every day diets, we can benefit from a concentrated dosage that would be impossible to get from eating reasonable quantities of foods. For example, a high curcumin turmeric supplement could give you the equivalent of 20 or more teaspoons of turmeric powder. Meso-dosing is therefore all about maximising nutrient density.

Wellness rookie? Here’s how to Meso-Dose.

  • Firstly, you need to start with a balanced diet. Meso-dosing is not going to be effective or beneficial unless you have the foundations of a healthy diet in place.
  • Eat the rainbow; 7-10 servings of different coloured fruits and vegetables per day will give you a natural ‘meso-dose’ of vitamins and antioxidants.
  • Eating plenty of fibre and a varied diet will keep your gut microbiome healthy and diverse, which is one of the best ways to support your immunity and overall health.
  • Don’t miss out on the food sources as well. No supplement can replace the health benefits of real foods. There are many compounds present in foods that work together in nature and certainly many beneficial compounds scientists haven’t even discovered yet.
  • Choose the best quality supplements for meso-dosing. Check the ingredients list like you would with food products and go for the highest quality you can afford.

Beauty and Go drinks contain various nutrients that cannot be obtained through a normal diet. The Skin Shot contains the equivalent of 2 bowls of bone broth. A serving of bone broth contains only around 2.5g collagen.

Curcumin, the active ingredient in turmeric, as discussed above is present in the Beauty & Go Skin Shot. Curcumin has potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. It can help protect the skin and entire body against oxidative stress, as it not only acts as an antioxidant itself, but also boosts the activity of the body’s own antioxidant enzymes, so its actions against free radicals are two-fold. There is also evidence for benefits of high dose curcumin supplements for depression, arthritis, indigestion, IBS and Alzheimer’s.

MacroAntioxidants® are in the Beauty and Go drinks range. These are a super-charged, bigger, better and more powerful version of the regular antioxidants we already know. MacroAntioxidants® are sourced from the skin and peel of fruits, as this is where they are needed most to protect the fruits themselves from environmental damage. They are sourced from fruit skins we don’t eat, like orange peel and pomegranate skins, so are not part of our usual diets and represent 50-70% of the fruit’s total antioxidant capacity.

Pomegranate Concentrate is present in the Beauty and Go range, providing a more concentrated dose of pomegranate and its health benefits. Pomegranates contain an active ingredient called punicalagins, a powerful antioxidant, present both in the skin and the juice of the fruit with strong antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Research links pomegranate with lowering blood pressure and cholesterol levels, helping prevent osteoarthritis and keeping the prostate healthy. Pomegranates are also an excellent source of vitamin C, which is needed for healthy collagen formation.
